Short Hills Invitational Tournament
short Hills Men's 95s

Short Hills, NJ
They say that timing is everything...and the Short Hills Invitational Tournament was lucky with the timing. Weekend weather was great, and Monday morning brought another snow storm! With record draws there were many matches to get played...and everyone still got home in time to watch the Super Bowl. Congratulations to double champion Steve DeRose (Men's95+ with Jaime Ferriero - pictured at left - and Men's Ranking with Jon Lubow), Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova (Women's Ranking), Junius Clark and Michael Chen (Men's B), and Amanda Dolan and Anne Delaney (Women's B).

LeagueClassic 2013

Short Hills, NJ
The Men's League Classic - sponsored by the New Jersey Men's Platform Tennis Association - always features 128 teams and a full day of paddle and food and fun! This year, there was the added attraction of an all day snow storm which was strong enough to overcome many of the court heaters. Despite the obstacles, the tournament was played as scheduled, with main draw finals on Monday night. Congrats to Anthony Cosimano & Jeff Hipkins on defending their title, this time over Steve DeRose & Tim McDougald in a 3 set thriller. See the complete main draw and some photos

Holiday Fun!

Short Hills, NJ
The 1st annual Holiday Classic was an instant hit! Twenty-four teams of women took time out from the season's chores to play a morning of paddle and have lunch. Group winners were Sherry Zabel and Cindy Lewis, Theresa Hellmuth and Gina Patterson and Patrice Shapiro and Jen Nielsen. After morning play at other clubs, the players came to lunch at Short Hills Club, where they mingled with those playing the Women's 50+ National Championships.     See some photos    Women's 50+ draw (Congrats Bobo & Judy!)

League Classic Finalists

Short Hills, NJ
The New Jersey Men's League Classic was contested on Saturday and Sunday, but winners have not been determined yet. After 5 rounds of play on Saturday, the field was greatly reduced, but Mother Nature and common sense prevailed after the semifinals on Sunday morning. Anthony Cosimano and Steve Haller are vying for their 8th title, and 3rd in a row. They will have to defeat the 2006 champs, Mike Atkinson and Bill Kloss, in order to enter the record books again. The match is scheduled for Tuesday night at Canoe Brook. Consolation and Last Chance winners were determined, with Andy Provost-Mike Claps and Jay Zaslower-Rich Halik coming out on top. Reprieve and Buckshot finals will be held this week as well.

When your partner is unavailable for a tournament, sometimes you stay home as well. Sometimes you pair up with someone else for the event. Seldom do things work out as well as they did this weekend for Anthony Cosimano and David Caldwell, who paired for the first time and defeated a strong field to win the Short Hills Invitational Men's Ranking tournament. With their victory in the Women's Ranking tournament, Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay took over the top ranking.
