Women's 70+ Nationals
APTA Jack-o-Lantern

Essex Fells, NJ
Helen Garrett and Sandy Simmers have to go down in the record books as one of the most successful teams ever in senior platform tennis play. Once again they claimed the gold medals at the Women's 70+ National Championships, held today at the Essex Fells Country Club. Thanks to Carolyn Tierney for "making it happen" - all who have been involved know that it is a giant juggling feat to end up with 8 teams for this event! Silver medalists were Ginny Sniatkowski & Thelma Huber. Anke Cornell & Gail Condon finished in 3rd place, edging Dolores Krzanowski & Birgit Maio in the playoff match.

Mixed Masters
Mixed Masters

Bethlehem, PA
It rained and it rained and it rained...it was only 3 days, not 40, but we think that the fact that the film "Noah" was opening this weekend must have had something to do with the weather for the Mixed Masters held at Saucon Valley Country Club! On Friday, the 60+ Mixed Nationals featured 8 teams and a lot of fun while dodging raindrops. Gold medalists Diane Straus Tucker & Scott Estes already have an impressive array of medals, and added another at the expense of Connie Jones & Ken Persson. Saturday was the day for the 50+ Mixed Nationals, and as the weather got sloppier the play got more intense. In the end, sister-brother duo Laurie Hissey & Tim McAvoy repeated as champs, defeating Bobo Delaney & Mike Gillespie. Sunday's Husband-Wife 50+ tournament featured 16 teams who travelled from as far as Massachusetts and Ohio to compete for the gold. For the third day in a row we had #1 vs #2 in the finals, with Heather & Vince Prop defeating Cynthia & Ken Dardis for the crown.

There was a lot of experience on display at the 2013 APTA Men's 145+ Nationals at Sleepy Hollow Country Club. Originally conceived as an alternative to holding a Men's 75+ Nationals, the event has become one of the most popular and well-attended senior events on the calendar. Director Rich Lombard has shepherded the tournament through its 13th year. Champions were determined on Friday at the NYAC. See the completed draw and some photos.

Parsons duRandt

Franklin Lakes, NJ
Johan du Randt (Weston MA) and Mark Parsons (Norwalk, CT) left no doubt as to who the top team in the country is winning the 2013 National Chanpionship without dropping a set. Semi final against Juan Arraya and Lennart Jonason was decided by 2 tie breakers. New Jersey favorites Steve DeRose and Jon Lubow beat 2012 National Champs Drew Broderick and Chris Gambino in the Semis but even with heavy support from the crowd were unable to overcome Parsons and du Randt

Women's 50s

Scarsdale, NY
They began play in the afternoon and finished well into the evening, with the finals of the Women's 50+ National Championships lasting almost 4 hours! In the end, the new partnership of Tonia Mangan and Andrea Noyes defeated two-time defending champs Bobo Delaney and Judy Takach 7-5, 4-6, 7-6. These mixed-up pairs (Tonia & Bobo will pair for Nationals next week, as will Judy and Andrea) know each others' games so well that they we able to anticipate shots and moves that weren't apparent to the spectators. After a long day in the rain, the Feed-in Consolation final - between Marie Adams & Buttons O'Donnell and Debra LaMountain & Kathy Parker - was deferred until a later date. Carrie Rabuse & Carolyn Cutler claimed Quarterfinal Reprieve honors over Janet Faig & Donna Charlton, while Susan Macdonald & Laurie Schelz defeated Margo DeSantis & Blythe Hamer for the Conso Reprieve crown. Thanks to Susan Schwab for making it all happen!     View the complete draw
