Senior Camaraderie 03-24-2017
Scarsdale, NY
written by: Marjorie
One of the repeated hallmarks of platform tennis is "camaraderie". This is always on display at the APTA Men's 145 National Championships. Hosted by the "Home of Platform Tennis" (Fox Meadow Tennis Club) once again, and steered by Jo Rogers and Rick Reuter, the event had sixteen teams competing for the coveted medals. Most of the teams playing on Thursday, however, were there for the fun and friendships. The Alph Beane Award, presented annually to a player who exemplifies this spirit of camaraderie, as Alph did so well, was given this year to Bob Brown (pictured).

David Kjeldsen is re-entering the Platform Tennis Business in the upcoming week with a new line of paddles. Stay tuned for information.

"Since selling the business I watched what I perceived as change in attitude of the sports’ purveyors. Gone were the days of true personal interaction. I felt as if the “corporations” did not have the player’s interest at heart, and were not really providing them with top notch products. I didn’t see a lot of attention to detail or to the players, as everything was becoming too bottom line oriented. So while this Norseman still had some gas left in the [ read more ]

Group seeks to bolster interest in platform tennis 11-10-2015
Springfield IL
written by: John Reynolds
The tennis courts at Washington Park were mostly vacant Saturday, but there was a lot of activity at the four adjacent platform tennis courts.
That's not unusual since platform tennis is a cold-weather game. In fact, enthusiasts say the perfect time to play is an overcast day when the mercury is hovering around the 20-degree mark. On those days, players clean the snow off the outdoor court and turn on the built-in court heater to melt any new snow that might fall.
"It's fun to play in the snow," said Dan Kepner, president of the Springfield Platform Tennis Association. "You turn on the heat, and it m [ read more ]
