The Beacon Hill Club Women's B tournament was held on a glorious winter day, with a few twists...A last minute dropout at match time resulted in a last-minute substitute...and then another substitute for later in the morning...but everyone got to play! Congratulations to Colleen O'Reilly and Denice Donohoe, who "mastered" Angie Comiteau & Katie Bugliari in the finals and took home new Master Athletics paddles as prizes. Thirty-two teams entered the Beacon Hill Men's B tournament this weekend. At the end of play, experience won out. Todd Smith and Hans Tang topped Dan Urban and Ari Borinsky in a hard-fought final. This was the first tournament ever for Urban, and he showed a talent that will only improve as he plays more. Other bracket winners: Scott Roskell & Greg Morgan (consolation); Brian Combias & James Villari (reprieve); and Dave Lisooey & Doug Cundey (last chance). Draws

The paddle tournament season at Indian Trail Club began with a Men's B event on Sunday, October 16. A fun day of play saw Alex McDonald and Greg Morgan defeat Mike Fraser and Larry Friedman to claim the crown by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Dennis Cusack and John Holland topped Ben Durfee and Byron Maturo 6-3, 6-3 to claim the Conso title.

SERVE-ing UP A STORM
Mother Nature certainly has a sense of humor! You plan an event to raise funds to help those impacted by a monster storm, and she decides to get involved with snow and ice - the only day that week that the weather isn't perfect! B is for Beacon
The Beacon Hill Men's B tournament returned for a second year and the competition and fun-factor were just as high as in the inaugural season! Jared Lissauer and Greg Weiss traveled from Westchester County to have home the title, topping Adam Drum and Len Gilbert in the finals. The Haines brothers, William and Andrew, were Consolation winners over Jeff Garibaldi and Roger Breene; Reprieve winners were Patrick Collins and Richard Mendolia; Last Chance went to Mark Polemeni and Keith Riabov; Reprieve Consolation to John Blundin and Robert Mannion and Hans Tang and Patrick Collins (another one!) claimed 3rd place. The 1st Annual Beacon Hill Club Men's "B" tournament targeted players in the F through J divisions of the NJMPTA (or those of similar ability). The 16 teams had a great day of paddle and fun and are looking forward to another "B" tournament! The finalists were all from Centercourt Athletic Club, with Erik Matkiwsky and Keith Maddox prevailing over Rick Sahlman and Jiri Janko. Len Gilbert and Adam Drum, Steve Nitti and Greg Chiarello and Corey Grad and Andy Regan were all backdraw winners. View the complete draws here.
Beacon Hill Men's B
New on the calendar this year is the Beacon Hill Club Men's "B" tournament. The target group for this event is men who play in NJMPTA Divisions F, G, H, I or J, or those of similar abilities. Director Darlene Finnegan is promising a fun day of play on Sunday, October 24 at Beacon Hill and local clubs.
The weather cooperated for the 2nd Annual Beacon Hill "B" and the tournament went off as scheduled (unlike last year!). With a Wait List almost as long as the entry list, this is clearly one of the most popular tournaments on the calendar. Patti Sanford and Carolyn Cutler emerged as champs this year. Summit, NJ The 1st Annual Beacon Hill “B” tournament gave in to Mother Nature for one day, but went off without a hitch the following day. Tournament Director Darlene Finnegan let common sense and safety rule and postponed the tournament from Wednesday, January 7th due to weather reports promising a full day of rain and freezing rain. Thursday saw a few snow showers, but nothing to interrupt play.
208 enthusiastic junior paddle players arrived at the Beacon Hill
Club on January 29th hoping to take home the gold. This
fun-filled afternoon is sponsored by Viking Athletics, Marsh, the
NJ Men's Platform Tennis Association and the NJ Women's Platform
Tennis League. Their generosity makes it possible to run a first-class
event at little expense to the participants. Each child took home
a Viking backpack. The finalists in each age group received new
Viking paddles and APTA medals, with the winners also receiving
