It rained and it rained and it rained...it was only 3 days, not 40, but we think that the fact that the film "Noah" was opening this weekend must have had something to do with the weather for the Mixed Masters held at Saucon Valley Country Club! On Friday, the 60+ Mixed Nationals featured 8 teams and a lot of fun while dodging raindrops. Gold medalists Diane Straus Tucker & Scott Estes already have an impressive array of medals, and added another at the expense of Connie Jones & Ken Persson. Saturday was the day for the 50+ Mixed Nationals, and as the weather got sloppier the play got more intense. In the end, sister-brother duo Laurie Hissey & Tim McAvoy repeated as champs, defeating Bobo Delaney & Mike Gillespie. Sunday's Husband-Wife 50+ tournament featured 16 teams who travelled from as far as Massachusetts and Ohio to compete for the gold. For the third day in a row we had #1 vs #2 in the finals, with Heather & Vince Prop defeating Cynthia & Ken Dardis for the crown.

They began play in the afternoon and finished well into the evening, with the finals of the Women's 50+ National Championships lasting almost 4 hours! In the end, the new partnership of Tonia Mangan and Andrea Noyes defeated two-time defending champs Bobo Delaney and Judy Takach 7-5, 4-6, 7-6. These mixed-up pairs (Tonia & Bobo will pair for Nationals next week, as will Judy and Andrea) know each others' games so well that they we able to anticipate shots and moves that weren't apparent to the spectators. After a long day in the rain, the Feed-in Consolation final - between Marie Adams & Buttons O'Donnell and Debra LaMountain & Kathy Parker - was deferred until a later date. Carrie Rabuse & Carolyn Cutler claimed Quarterfinal Reprieve honors over Janet Faig & Donna Charlton, while Susan Macdonald & Laurie Schelz defeated Margo DeSantis & Blythe Hamer for the Conso Reprieve crown. Thanks to Susan Schwab for making it all happen!View the complete draw
