The Detroit invitational saw its largest NRT/PDQ draw in quite some. Teams came from Long Island, NY, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cincinnati and Cleveland as well as Michigan and the Great Detroit area. The paddle hut was complete with Chili, beer and other treats as the spectators enjoyed watching a top flight championship. The finals saw Scott Estes and Casey Vens defeating Scott Mansager and Brian Compton 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.

Plain City, OH Brian Heil and the Elysium Tennis Club resurrected the women's portion of the Columbus Open. This is Brian's recap:
The Columbus Open was played on Friday February 7th and was a huge success. We had 24 teams battle it out in single digit temperature with the team of Budde-Glassmeyer eventually prevailing 6-0,6-3 vs Gilbert-Lippy. The ladies all had a great day filled with competition, camaraderie, food and drinks! Thanks to all the staff at Elysium for putting on a great tourney and special thanks to Worthington Hills Country Club for the use of their courts. The Rochester Open recently celebrated its 35th year. The Men's NRT Draw saw George Wilkinson in his second straight final, this time pairing with Drew Broderick to win the crown over Brett Englesberg & Jeff McMaster by the score of 6-0, 6-1. It was a good weekend for the Broderick family, as Juliet Broderick paired with Jill Feher to reach her first final, in the Women's PCQ event. The two lost to the experienced team of Kelly Fischer & Jessica Guyaux 6-1, 6-2.
Essex Fells, NJ
The Atlantic Classic Men's and Women's NRT was played this weekend at Essex Fells Country Club and surrounding clubs, and featured some new partnerships as well as some newcomers to paddle. Pictured are newcomers George and Sebastien (2nd tournament) and Jared (1st tournament) who had success on Saturday. In the end, the seeds in the men's draw held, with #1 Anthony Cosimano/Steve DeRose defeating #2 Brad Easterbrook/Lennart Jonason. The women's draw was not as predictable, with both seeds exiting before the finals. Ana Brzova/Lauren Cash outlasted Lauren Mandell/Gerri Viant to take the title by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Holly Peck and Lynn Thompson from Pittsburgh, PA defeated Kelly Fischer and Jessica Guyaux from Pittsburgh, 6-4, 7-5.
Ms. Peck has won the Masters four previous times 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 and runner-up in 2006. This is Ms. Thompson's first Masters victory. view picture and draw
SOUND SHORE INVITATIONAL
Come to Fox Meadow for the first Region I Men's PCQ and NRT of the season - the Sound Shore Invitational. This season the tournament committee will be focusing on strengthening the "B" Tournament while keeping the "A" draw as strong as in the past. Tournament Director Mike Cochrane has enlisted Marjorie Hodson to help with all administrative duties for the tournament. Again this year, all surplus proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Charlie's Champions, a foundation created by Tara and John Schmitt, whose mission is to raise awareness and funds to benefit the Cancer Center for Kids. 2007 Atlantic Classic
Following on last year’s success, the Atlantic Classic Men’s NRT and PCQ has expanded to include a Women’s tournament NRT and PCQ (formerly the Sound Shore Women’s). Both tournaments will be played Saturday and Sunday, January 20th and 21st. New this year - Director Drew Broderick is organizing a Saturday night cocktail party with DJ for all players.
