In the strongest field yet, 24 teams competed for the Sound Shore Seniors title on Friday. After a morning of round robin play, and a wonderful Jo-catered lunch, the teams divided into 2 groups for bracket play. At the end of the day Scott Estes and Peter Gruenberg prevailed over Mike Gillespie and Mike O'Donnell by the score of 6-3, 3-6, 10-3, and Brad Reifler and Larry Segan defeated Gary Klein and Gary Squires in a close 6-4, 6-4. Essex Fells, NJ
They conquered the 60s and moved on to the 70s, where they continue to dominate the competition. Helen Garrett and Sandy Simmers once again proved themselves to be Super Seniors by winning the Women's 70+ Nationals again. Through 3 matches, the pair dropped only 2 games, both in the finals, where they defeated Gail Moskow and Anne Beatty. Other winners include: 3rd place, Sharon Hummers and Marie Minnick; 5th place, Anke Cornell and Ginny Sniatkowski; and 7th place, Gail Bradley and Liz Dunn. New Jersey Seniors
Westfield, NJ On Saturday, March 10, Mike O'Donnell and Scott Estes teamed up to successfully defend their title in the New Jersey Men's 60+ Championships at the Echo Lake Country Club. They defeated Lloyd Ucko and Ivan Harlow in three hard-fought sets by the score of 3-6, 7-6, 7-6. Tournament Director Larry Hartzell reports that the event was once again a great day of paddle for all involved!
The 2010 APTA Men's 50 and 70+ National Championships were played at Fox Meadow Tennis Club today. Main draw finals are scheduled for Sunday morning. The Men's 50+ final is a repeat of last year, featuring Tim McAvoy - Scott Bondurant against Peter Redpath - Chip Morrow. Joe Holmes and Roy Anderson will try to defend their title against Alan Goldman and Herb Hummers in the 70s.
Perfect weather and a great group of guys were on hand for the Sound Shore Seniors 125+ tournament. The combined ages of the partners had to be at least 125. The teams were divided into four groups for morning round robin play. Following lunch, they re-organized into three brackets based on where they finished in their round robin. Flight I was won by Scott Estes and Jerry Whitlock over John Spears and Jim Dey. Flight II winners were Charlie Curtis and Kevin O'Rourke over Bill Fanning and Jeff Sussmann. Flight III saw George Brakeley and Carl Petersen defeat Phil Lee and Charlie Updike.
Sound Shore Seniors
Old Man Winter tried to get involved in the Sound Shore Seniors tournaments at Fox Meadow Tennis Club on Friday and Saturday, but the hardy veterans were having none of it! Friday's play saw 24 teams with combined ages of 125 or more who braved single digit and low teens temperatures to compete. Senior Mixed Nationals
Glen Cove, NY
The final National Championships of the season saw seniors competing in Mixed Doubles in two age groups. The results for these tournaments were nothing new, as Louise Cash - Scott Estes captured the 60+ gold and Connie Jones - Ken Persson again won the 50+ crown. Soundshore Invitational Seniors
Scarsdale, NY Soundshore 95s at Fox Meadow. The tournament will be on January 19th. The eligibility will require the combined age of both partners to be at least 95 years old. The cost of the tournament is $120/team. 15, 2003. The minimum ages are by December 31, 2003. The Team must be
a combine age of at least 110 years; Ladies: 51; Men: 55

The second event are
the APTA Womens 40+ and 50+ National Championships 2003 on Saturday, March
19 through Sunday, March 20, 2003 at the Fox Meadow Country Club. This
will be a 48-team draw (Women’s 40+) and a 24 team draw (Women’s
60+) with consolations. Lunch will be served to all players at Fox Meadow
Tennis Club. Lunch available to guests on a cash basis.
