Spring was in the air at the new Brook B women's tournament. Hosted by Spring Brook Country Club and Canoe Brook Country Club, the event featured 32 teams of enthusiastic paddlers enjoying a beautiful day of play and competition. Blue Group winners Kim Amirata & Wendy Foley (following their win at the St. Paddles Day bash on Friday)defeated Cynthia Tratnyek & Anita Bobba in the finals. The Green Group was won by Colleen O'Reilly & Denice Donohoe, who defeated Ava Reynolds and Mary King to claim the crown. Take 136 teams, divide into 5 groups and create two days of fun! The NJWPTL State Tournament was held January 11 & 12, and featured 272 women playing at 5 competitive levels. The Beacon Hill Club Women's B tournament was held on a glorious winter day, with a few twists...A last minute dropout at match time resulted in a last-minute substitute...and then another substitute for later in the morning...but everyone got to play! Congratulations to Colleen O'Reilly and Denice Donohoe, who "mastered" Angie Comiteau & Katie Bugliari in the finals and took home new Master Athletics paddles as prizes. Another successful Women's B tournament, another great cause supported. When the application opened for the Canoe Brook Women's B, it didn't take long for this popular event to fill. Within an hour, all spots were taken, with a huge wait list forming. The decision was made to double the size of the draw...and that filled almost immediately as well! The 32 teams were divided into 2 groups to play paddle and support SIDS research .

The women gathered for another B tournament - this one based at Essex Fells Country club - and a day of fun and friends! By mid-afternoon, Katy Hobbis and Liz Landy had captured the crown, defeating Nancy Leccese and Gina Patterson in the finals. Sally Rogers was finally able to help us from above - the sun was shining on the courts for our 2016 “The Sally” platform tennis charity event after years of rain! We had a strong draw of 32 teams playing primarily at our host club, Fox Meadow Tennis Club as well as 4 surrounding facilities. The Sally has been held at Fox Meadow Tennis Club in Scarsdale, New York, for over 35 years. It is a competitive, yet friendly, women’s paddle and silent auction event for intermediate to advanced players

The 7th Annual Pioneer Valley Women’s Open, hosted at the Field Club of Longmeadow, was a huge success with 24 teams and weather that was just perfect! The day was busy but well coordinated by the tournament directors Asa Nilsson and Kate Morneau as well as by two paddle enthusiasts’ Tom Kietzman and Per Nilsson.

Results from the 65th Short Hills Invitational prove that sometimes champions have to make comebacks. Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova lost the first set to Kerri Delmonico and Lauren Gebbia before coming back to win the title by the score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Not to be outdone, after dropping the first set 6-0, Drew Broderick and Jared Palmer fought back to defeat Juan Arraya and Max LePivert 0-6, 6-2, 6-1. The APTA Grand Prix series began with the Patterson Open Men's and Women's championships. In the Women's division, all four seeded teams reached the semifinals. Top seeds Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova claimed the women's crown with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 victory over second seeds Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay. The Men's draw saw the second seeds bow out in the quarterfinals, but the other three top-seeded teams reached the semis. Women's 70+ Nationals
Essex Fells, NJ Helen Garrett and Sandy Simmers have to go down in the record books as one of the most successful teams ever in senior platform tennis play. Once again they claimed the gold medals at the Women's 70+ National Championships, held today at the Essex Fells Country Club. Thanks to Carolyn Tierney for "making it happen" - all who have been involved know that it is a giant juggling feat to end up with 8 teams for this event! Silver medalists were Ginny Sniatkowski & Thelma Huber. Anke Cornell & Gail Condon finished in 3rd place, edging Dolores Krzanowski & Birgit Maio in the playoff match.

On a beautiful day for paddle (if not for Parkway travel), 16 teams enjoyed paddle and lunch.. Being on the wait list sometimes works out... Sue Cecere and Marian Cunningham went from the Wait List to the Winner's Circle at the Indian Trail Women's B tournament on Friday. They defeated Kerry Rice and Kathy Foos in the finals 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Consolation winners were Ava Reynolds and Maggie Magaldi; Reprieve winners were Jeanne Kelly and Margaret O'Meara and Last Chance champs were ITC members Jennifer Chang and Jodie Pani.

Another tournament...another title! Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova claimed their second title of the season at the inaugural Lake Invitational, held at the Indian Trail Club. Tournament Director Ana turned the former women's portion of the Atlantic Classic into a Women's Only event that ran simultaneously with the men's tournament being held at Essex Fells Country Club. Ana and Viki defeated Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay by the score of 6-4, 6-2. Other winners: Quarterfinal Reprieve - Kerri Delmonico and Lauren Gebbia; Reprieve - Karin Kochis and Jaclyn Williamson; Consolation - Michaela Babicova and Marina Ruiz de Gauna and Last Chance - Abigail Burke and Patty Cromie. As much as things change, the more they remain the same! And the Patterson Open 2014 edition certainly showed that. Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova continued their dominance with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the new team of Kerri Delmonico and Lauren Gebbia to retain the women's crown. Two new teams faced off in the finals of the Men's Open draw. Drew Broderick defended last year's title, this time teaming with Jared Palmer to beat newcomers Mark Innes and Mikk Irdoja 6-2, 6-1. The Men's B crown went to Dave and Zach Rosenfeld, who took out last year's finalists Larry Garinger and Alain DeCoster before defeating Keith Komline and Scott Swinarton in the finals by a score of 6-0, 6-1. On March 1st, a day that started on the chilly side but became a pleasant day of platform tennis, the 5th Annual Pioneer Valley Women’s Open tournament took place at the Field Club in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. With a draw of 20 teams, the day was busy but well coordinated by our hut commander Jeff Morneau while Barbara Horne handled food and refreshments.
Amy Hutter and Kathleen Buckley once again took home the top trophy by winning over the duo of Kelly Hellstein and Yvonne Ting. Quarter Reprieve winners were Amy Chafee and Deb Schmutzler. Trish Griggs and Jen Bauman took home the Consolation prize while Peggy O'Brien and Diane Mayland won the Consolation Reprieve.

The sun was shining in Westchester County on Wednesday...one of the few days in February without snow! The Westchester Women's PCQ took place before a major storm came through that would have made play impossible. Judy Takach and Jill Feher stormed through the field to win the crown over mother-daughter duo Louise Cash and Lauren Gebbia by the score of 6-4, 6-2. Conso winners were Julie Kennedy & Lynn House. Reprieve Winners were Molly Brown & Kallie Hapgood; Jen Demsey & Danielle Lenois claimed 5th place, and the Last Chance winners were Yuiko Hebner & Yuko Nishii. The Columbus Open was played on Friday February 7th and was a huge success. We had 24 teams battle it out in single digit temperature with the team of Budde-Glassmeyer eventually prevailing 6-0,6-3 vs Gilbert-Lippy. The ladies all had a great day filled with competition, camaraderie, food and drinks! Thanks to all the staff at Elysium for putting on a great tourney and special thanks to Worthington Hills Country Club for the use of their courts. The 1st annual Holiday Classic was an instant hit! Twenty-four teams of women took time out from the season's chores to play a morning of paddle and have lunch.
