It's not easy doing it all...tournament director, commentator, trouble-shooter and champion...but Drew Broderick managed to pull it off at the Atlantic Classic tournament last weekend. He and Jared Palmer repeated as champs this year, defeating Mikk Irdoja and Dan Regan in an exciting final. Coming back from a set point down in the semifinals, the champs did not drop a set in the event.
Using an 8-game pro set format for the backdraws was a well-received addition to the tournament, as was the use of a new team for the live video feed. The weather was perfect for the spectators, if a bit warm fo [ read more ]

Essex Fells, NJ
For the second straight week they entered the tournament unseeded, and for the second staright week they claimed the crown! With the loss of only 8 games through 5 rounds of play in the Atlantic Classic, Drew Broderick and Jared Palmer proved themselves to be a team to be feared. Last week they met in the semifinals, and this week in the finals, but Juan Arraya and Lennart Jonason have yet to win a set from the season's hot new team. With many high level teams playing, there was fierce competition throughout the day on Saturday. Check out the complete draws here.
As much as things change, the more they remain the same! And the Patterson Open 2014 edition certainly showed that. Ana Brzova and Viki Stoklasova continued their dominance with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the new team of Kerri Delmonico and Lauren Gebbia to retain the women's crown. Two new teams faced off in the finals of the Men's Open draw. Drew Broderick defended last year's title, this time teaming with Jared Palmer to beat newcomers Mark Innes and Mikk Irdoja 6-2, 6-1. The Men's B crown went to Dave and Zach Rosenfeld, who took out last year's finalists Larry Garinger and Alain DeCoster before defeating Keith Komline and Scott Swinarton in the finals by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Lehigh Valley Classic
They came from north, south, east and west to play in the Lehigh Valley Classic. Most of the top players participated, although many switched up partnerships for the day. When one of the #2 seeds was a late scratch due to illness, it wasn't hard finding a replacement - the players really enjoy coming to this event, and it is an easy commute for most. Those from Chicago, Virginia, Washington, DC and Massachusetts had longer journeys, but were all willing to make the effort to earn Region 3 Presidents Cup points and to vie for the best prize out there - a stay at tournament director Chip Morrow's Dominican Republic villa. Drew Broderick and Steve DeRose continued their winning ways (3 tournaments - 3 titles). They ousted Jeff Morneau & Johan duRandt in an exciting semifinal and then, in an all-American final, topped Mike Marino & Dane Schmidgall. Backdraw results: Bostrom & Bredberg finished 5th; Levanat & Rhazali won the Conso; Kahler & Grangeiro won the 16 Reprieve and Furman - McGrath claimed Last Chance honors. View the complete draw here
Sound Shore Invitational
The Sound Shore Invitational tournament returned to Manursing Island Club after a year away due to Superstorm Sandy and featured some of the most exciting play of the season. For entertainment value, the semifinal between Juan Arraya and Alex Bancila and Drew Broderick and Anthony Cosimano and the final between Arraya-Bancila and top seeded Mark Parsons and Johan du Randt would be hard to top! In the end, Parsons-du Randt prevailed 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
Congratulations to Drew Broderick and Chris Gambino, 2013 Chicago Charities Men's Open champions. They defeated Steve DeRose and Jon Lubow 6-4, 7-5 in a very exciting final. This was Drew's third title of the year...with 3 different partners.
