The Winnable B, known to many as the unofficial B Championships due to the high level of play, was hotly contested on Sunday at Canoe Brook Country Club and area courts. Multi-time champs Junius Clark and Michael Chen met Adrian Buckley and Rick Sahlman in one semifinal, and went down to the soon-to-be-crowned first-time champs. The other semifinal pitted Ari Borinsky (a former champ) and tournament newcomer Drew Sutton against the reliable team of Matt Bibbo and John deGrandpre, with Matt and John coming out on top. High winds threatened everything not securely fastened down - and that definitely included lobs and service tosses! But the Senior Nationals were unfazed by Mother Nature! Saturday morning featured the Men's 55+ finals - won in a long 3-setter by Jim Kaufman and Bob Kleinert over last year's champs, Mike Sullivan and Scott Pecor. Play also began in Men's 45+ and 65+ and Women's 40+ Nationals. Main draw finals of those 3 events will be contested on Sunday morning at Centercourt Athletic Club. Seniors Survive Rain
Despite day-long rain, the Women's 60+ Nationals went off as scheduled. Diane Straus Tucker and Muffin Slonaker outlasted Judy Saydah and Debbie Cooper to claim the gold medals in a late afternoon match by the score of 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Other winners include Sandy Simmers and Helen Garrett in the playoff for 3rd place, Liz Lavin and Tracey Volet in the Consolation bracket and Karen Dorne and Clara Karnish in the Last Chance. The Men's 55+ Nationals was also contested, with championship play to be held Saturday morning. The battle of Man vs Mother Nature continued in New England this weekend, as the New England Men's B tournament was contested in constant snow. Flexibility in scheduling was needed in order to assure safe courts for play! Although the crowd was sparse by the finals, it was a great day of paddle, which saw Nick Mazzarese and Phil Johnson prevail over Amin Khadduri and Eric Brown by the score of 6-3, 6-0. The Island "B" Men's tournament was contested this weekend at the Newport Country Club. The sixteen team draw enjoyed a day of beautiful weather and great play. The Monsoon Open was not held this year...instead the Winnable B was contested under bright blue skies! Thirty-two teams competed throughout the day with winners crowned in 4 events. An entertaining main draw final saw Tyler Gaffney and Jeremy Lamande charge back in the third set to defeat Rob Schenone and Tim McDougald 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. Other winners and finalists are: Consolation - Ian McDonald & Mark Callahan over Kevin Dillon and Lance Barrett; Reprieve - Jon and Blake Anderson over Steve Bernt & Craig Hall; Last Chance - Patrick Collins & Paul Rippe over Chris Conroy & Andrew Schroeder.

The New Jersey Men's Open, 50+ and 120+ (combined) Championships were contested on Saturday at the Orange Lawn Tennis Club and other area clubs. Known for great favors, food and competition, the tournament didn't disappoint! Tournament Director Scott Moore arrived from Miami, FL to oversee the event again this year. Winners included Mike Stulac & Chris Ucko - Open DIvision; Chuck Faig & Robert Krauss - 50+ Division; and Scott Estes & Ken Persson - 120+ DIvision. Franklin Lakes, NJ
Beautiful day - beautiful setting - amazing paddle! The Tri-State Cup returned for the third year and proved to be a tightly contested event. It was not until the final 2 points in a third set tiebreaker in the final match of the day that a champion could be determined. The event features teams of 10 players from each of 4 leagues in the Connecticut-New Jersey-New York area. Round robin play at each court level determines the overall winners. MEN'S 60+ NATIONALS
The 2010 APTA Men's 60+ National Championships were contested under beautiful skies and late spring temperature! Multi-time medalists Steve Baird and Scott Estes teamed up to defeat Doug Barrow and Steve Siegel by the score of 6-2, 6-1. Other winners include Andrew Freedman - Norman Himmelfarb, Consolation; Don Helm - Charlie Henry, Third Place playoff; and Robert Brandt - George Shorb, Consolation Reprieve winners.
