Corey Nicky Junior Nationals

Franklin Lakes, NJ
Their run is officially over...but it was one for the record books! Corey Delaney and Nicky Ross, from Chatham, NJ accomplished something that no one else in the history of platform tennis has done: The pair claimed their sixth junior national title, at this year's APTA Junior Nationals. Additionally, they are the first team to win 5 consecutive gold medals in juniors and the first to win the 18 & Under category 4 times. Their other titles were in the Girls 12 & Under in 2006 and the Girls 14 & Under in 2008. The two play at the Noe Pond Club in Chatham. Nicky is currently a freshman at Washington and Lee University and Corey will be heading to Dartmouth in the fall.

New England Junior Open
12-06-2009
Girls 10s

New Canaan, CT
108 children competed in the 10th annual New England Junior Open on December 5.   The weather was a mix of rain and snow and a real test of playing in tough conditions. The level of play and sportsmanship was exemplary.  All players received their APTA wall clock and NEJr long sleeve shirts.  A special thanks to Cindy Prendergast for the “safety” orange and green shirts, and to all the parent volunteers who manned the huts.
I look forward to the 2010 Junior Nationals in New Canaan on January 30. ~Mike Gillespie, Tournament Director

Peter Hissey drafted by Red Sox
12-15-2008
Peter Hissey

West Chester, PA
We first saw him at the age of 7, disappointed that he didn’t win a medal at the Junior Nationals. (He had to wait 2 more years to claim the 12 & Under crown!)  Then in 2004, he teamed with older brother David to capture the Boys 18 & Under title.  You would think the future of Peter Hissey as a platform tennis player would be filled with lots more victories and medals.  It seems, however, that we won’t be seeing as much of Pete on the court as in the past.  Click here to learn why.
