It's not easy doing it all...tournament director, commentator, trouble-shooter and champion...but Drew Broderick managed to pull it off at the Atlantic Classic tournament last weekend. He and Jared Palmer repeated as champs this year, defeating Mikk Irdoja and Dan Regan in an exciting final. Coming back from a set point down in the semifinals, the champs did not drop a set in the event.
Using an 8-game pro set format for the backdraws was a well-received addition to the tournament, as was the use of a new team for the live video feed. The weather was perfect for the spectators, if a bit warm for the players, but the anticipated rain did not arrive until well after play was completed.
The APTA sanctioned tournament, held at Canoe Brook Country Club, was the first National Ranking and Presidents Cup Qualifying event in Region 1 this season.
