Joe submitted three of the five eligible entries this year. All of his articles were published with photos in the Ocean Pines Independent.
Given the tremendous effort and achievements he has made in developing a successful paddle program in his community, we are happy to award the prize to Joe," said Jacki Brown of BulletWorks Platform Tennis.
Other entries received were from Jim McNamara representing the Mount Lebanon
(PA) Platform Tennis Association and Lulie Worthington of Quogue, Long Island. Both enthusiasts submitted well-written, multi-page articles with excellent photos. McNamara's submission appeared in the April '06 edition of the Mount Lebanon Magazine. Worthington's article ran in the March 8, 2007 Southampton Press.
The winner was chosen at random by the Belmont, Vermont postmaster Jane Hill. As was the case last year, the names of all submissions were written on index cards. Hill then picked one card as the winner.
BulletWorks will hold its contest again for the 07-08 season with hopes of receiving more entries. "Positive press is free and its an extremely effective way to gain interest in the sport," said Brown. And for $3,000, why not make the effort?
