These funds will be divided between the Bergen County Special Olympics Program, the Miracle on the Mountain and a few other local charities. The Miracle on the Mountain is an Elks owned/run facility where children with severe physical/mental disabilities are given the opportunity to spend a week or two at camp. The New Jersey Elks covers 100% of the cost for each camper, including any special support personnel required.
Despite competition for players from two other tournaments in the region, thirty-two men’s teams, 16 women’s teams and about a dozen “Crafty Vets” braved the cold on an otherwise beautiful day to compete for the crown. Scott Elfant/Ed Gartner defeated John Hartwell/Mike Hennessy to claim the Men’s title. Dianne Newman/Karen Berkman defeated JoAnn Irwin/Tiffany Conklin in the Women’s final. The “Crafty Vets” feel that they were all winners in their round robin competition.
As always, it takes a host of background people to make such an event happen. Many thanks to: Sandy Andrick, Tom Chisholm, John Hartwell and Volvo, David Kjeldsen and Viking, Jerry Salvi and imview.net, Brian Ade and Rivkin Radler, Dennis Oberle and Mahwah Ford and the Rutherford Elks Lodge for their support. And we couldn’t have done it without Mike and Lorraine Preziosi, Marjorie Hodson, Phil Calitre and Bob Sniatkowski and most of all Jim Ward.
