New York , NY Only 3 locations in New York City still have platform tennis courts on their rooftops, but paddle is alive and well at the Loyola Paddle Tennis Association in Manhattan where the club hosted over 30 players for it's annual end of season mixed doubles tourney. In a three set battle in the heat, Brice Van Elswyk and Lori Heffernan defeated Brad Walsh and Tina Wein 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 to win the championship. In consolation round play, Paula and John Hornbostel defeated Sarah McDaniel and Chris Snow to win the consolation title.
The LPTA has over 100 New York City members who play regularly on the 2 courts located on 84th and Park. The membership fees fund 2-3 scholarships to the school annually. Photos from the tourney are included below.
