Sally Rogers was finally able to help us from above - the sun was shining on the courts for our 2016 “The Sally” platform tennis charity event after years of rain! We had a strong draw of 32 teams playing primarily at our host club, Fox Meadow Tennis Club as well as 4 surrounding facilities. The Sally has been held at Fox Meadow Tennis Club in Scarsdale, New York, for over 35 years. It is a competitive, yet friendly, women’s paddle and silent auction event for intermediate to advanced players

St Louis Invitational Finalists

St. Louis, MO
 Kevin Kowalik and Andy Metzler, from Kansas City, topped the Scarsdale, NY duo of Mike and Chris Cochrane by the score of 7-5, 6-4 to claim the title at the 20th Annual St. Louis Invitational. The tournament began on Friday night with 8 St. Louis teams competing and continued through Saturday into Sunday, when champions were crowned. With multiple backdraws there were plenty of titles to share! Winners include:  Feder - Shoff, Christopherson - Rossetto, Golterman - Nasrallah, Mayer - Pozo, Castleman - Dickherber, Fluri - Stude and Anzalone - Edwards.

Senior Championships

Senior Nationals

Scarborough and Scarsdale, NY and Chatham, NJ
It's that time of year! Time for all of our "senior" players to find a partner and show off their skills! Men's 45+/55+ and 65+ titles will be at stake from February 24 through 26 at Centercourt Athletic Club in Chatham, NJ. The Women's 40+ and 60+ tournaments will also be contested then. In late March, the Men's 50+/60+ and 70+ Nationals, as well as the very popular Men's 145+ event, will be held at Fox Meadow Tennis Club and Sleepy Hollow Country Club, respectively.

Sound Shore Seniors 125+

Perfect weather and a great group of guys were on hand for the Sound Shore Seniors 125+ tournament. The combined ages of the partners had to be at least 125. The teams were divided into four groups for morning round robin play. Following lunch, they re-organized into three brackets based on where they finished in their round robin. Flight I was won by Scott Estes and Jerry Whitlock over John Spears and Jim Dey. Flight II winners were Charlie Curtis and Kevin O'Rourke over Bill Fanning and Jeff Sussmann. Flight III saw George Brakeley and Carl Petersen defeat Phil Lee and Charlie Updike.


Women's 50+ Nationals

Bobo Delaney - Tonia Mangan

Three of the four finalists in this year's Women's 50+ Nationals were there last year as well! The newcomer in the group, Tonia Mangan, paired with sister-in-law Bobo Delaney to defeat Donna Charlton and Janet Faig. Bobo and Tonia also own 2 golds for the Women's 40+ Nationals. Other winners include Ruth Andrews & Ruth Weil (Consolation), Ginny Sniatkowski & Laura Sullivan (Reprieve) and Ann Knoblock & Janet Linehan (Quarterfinal Reprieve), as well as a "stalemate" in the Last Chance between Salma Goldstein & Birgit Maio and Louise Delaney & Joan Dodds. Mary Jane Parks - Helen Garrett

The sixth edition of the Women's 70+ Nationals was contested today at Scarsdale Golf Club and Fox Meadow Tennis Club. Helen Garrett moved into a new age group this year and now has another gold medal to add to her collection. She and Mary Jane Parks teamed up to defeat Nancy Libby and Gail Reifsnyder. With four different partners through the years, Nancy has now claimed her 6th silver medal in the event! See the complete draws and some photos.

The Fox Meadow Tennis Club is neatly tucked away on a bend in the road in Scarsdale. If you don;t know it's there, you could miss it. In 2008, the club celebrated its 125th anniversary. What makes Fox Meadow unique are the two histories it holds - one by being one of the oldest tennis clubs in the country, the other by being the founding club of platform tennis.

The Platform Tennis Museum and Hall of Fame Foundation (Foundation) announced today that they have reached agreement with the Centercourt Athletic Club (CAC) of Chatham, New Jersey to establish a museum and space for recognition of the sport’s Hall of Fame inductees at the CAC clubhouse. Robert A. Brown of Scarsdale, Chairman of the Foundation, indicated that approximately 500 square feet on the second floor of the Centercourt clubhouse in Chatham would be used to honor Hall of Fame inductees and to display memorabilia of the sport, which was invented in Scarsdale, NY in 1928. full press release about Platform Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum

Mens 50+ 60+ 70+ Sr Nationals

Neither snow nor rain nor bright sunny skies deterred the veteran players who competed in the Men's 50+, 60+ and 70+ National Championships at the Fox Meadow Tennis Club, although the snow did cause some re-scheduling.
