Flip Goodspeed and Scott Mansager took on another strong field in this year's Midwesterns and again emerged with the title, defeating the current National Champions, Bill Anderson and Mike Stulac, 7-6, 6-3 in the finals. This was Goodspeed's 14th Midwesterns title and Mansager's 10th. Flip added another title the day before by teaming with Dan McLaughlin to win the Men's 90+. visit www.cincypaddle.org for more

Essex Fells, NJ
The newly formed Atlantic Classic (formerly the Connecticut Classic), will take place on January 21st-22nd. This national ranking tournament will be held in New Jersey instead of Connecticut and will still boast some of the nation’s top-ranked teams. New Jersey is also host to the Short Hills Invitational as well as the New Jersey Classic, which are two of the best tournaments of the year, so the Atlantic Classic looks to be one of this years better tournaments. Boston MA
The suburbs of Boston experienced some great paddle last weekend at the Boston Open! Cold temperatures gave some of the best teams in the country ideal paddle conditions.  Newly formed team from Maine – Greg Bennett and Matt Dana pulled off a couple of upsets. In the quarter-finals, they beat the local favorites – Bill and Leo Power, 6-4, 7-5. They continued their upset streak by beating the # 5 ranked team in the country – Anthony Cosimano and Steve Haller, 6-4, 7-6. Their streak came to an end against Bill Anderson and Mike Stulac in the finals. Anderson/Stulac proved why they are the National Champions by prevailing in a hard fought match 6-4, 4-6, 6-1  full results...

Westchester, NY
Brook Kindred has lost his fight with cancer. For more than 40 years, Brook served the APTA and the sport of platform tennis. He was an APTA Board Member, was instrumental in the formation and administration of the APTA Umpires Committee, helped develop the concept of the current Hall of Fame, and was a driving force behind the creation of a Platform Tennis Museum. While he did not live long enough to see this become a bricks and mortar reality, his efforts, knowledge and guidance have been invaluable.   continued...

New Jersey State
With a full 128 draw, the country's largest tournament had a waiting list and plenty of beer.  New Yorker, Rusty Wright with partner Mark Ruppert won the New Jersey League Championship over Steve DeRose and Jon Lubow 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the finals. The NLC also marked the return of Anthony Cosimano who has missed all of this season with a hand injury, Anthony and partner Steve Haller failed to defend their title. more from the NJLC and full draw results

The Winter Warriors by Peter Berka is the first book on the subject of platform tennis in the last 30 years. This book takes a modern-day look at the game of true warriors, Berka gives readers the knowledge they need to believe in themselves as players, while also improving fundamentals. New Jersey State
The countrys largest platform tennis draw is not Nationals, Sound Shore Invitational, or Chicago Charities, It is the New Jersey League Classic. With 128 teams, it is the largest draw since the 1999 Nationals held in Westchester NY.  This tournament is only for participants in the New Jersey Men's Platform Tennis League, view draw and link to dedicated messageboard

In a men's open, nationally ranking tournament, it was an all Pittsburgh finals that saw #1 seed Brett Englesberg and Brad Kelly ousting defending champions and #2 seed Paul Stulac and Scott McFaden to win the 2005 Cleveland Masters. On the women's side, it was the #1 seeded team of Kelly Fischer and Jessica Guyaux over an un-ranked team of Joyce Shaw and Joan Swain from Cleveland, 6-4, 7-5.   In the Men's 45s Rob Edelstein and partner Hoyt Murray, both from Cleveland, were victorious over Ron Visscher from Cincinnati and Jim Bishop from Chicago.  click here for draws

Tournament Director Mike Cochrane teamed with Scott Estes to defeat the top-seeded team of Bill Anderson & Mike Stulac and capture the Sound Shore Invitational championship in the Men's Open draw. The Kryptonite team of Cochrane and Estes are the first team to defeat Mike Stulac in a ranking tournament since he and partner Bill Anderson captured the 2005 National Championship in March.

Hartford, CT
Despite construction at the Hartford Golf Club, Deirdre Redden and Courtia Worth managed another terrific tournament. Who needs a hut when you have a tent and a trailer? National Champions Kerri Delmonico and Aila Main defeated Cynthia Dardis and Amy Shay for their first title of the season. full draw results

The Sound Shore Invitational reports Curt Brockelman / Rob Vincent win the Men's "B" Draw over Andrew Canning / Michael Mulligan. Men's Open draw continues play Sunday with the top seeded teams advancing to the 10:30 AM finals at the Fox Meadow Tennis Club.

Mike Stulac wins his 4th consecutive Men's Ranking tournament this time with partner Bill Fiedler - a 3rd set tiebreaker victory was against Mike Cochrane and Mike Marino. Jane McNitt and Terry Miller won over 2004 National Champs Mary Doten and Susie Keane in the Women's draw.

Mike Stulac continued his winning streak, this time partnered back with fellow national champion Bill Anderson in Rochester with a 3 set finals victory over David Caldwell and Blake Cordish. Women's winners Henke - Peck defeated Fisher - Lemiuex. Men's "B" Jagfeld - Reynolds defeated Heath - Segar view draws.

Milwaukee, WI
The Milwaukee Open completed 3 days of competition. The Women's draw saw many top ranked players with first time NRT winners Sally Cottingham / Chris Sheldon defeat Jane McNitt / Terry Miller. Mike Stulac continued his winning ways with new partner (for the event) Ray Crosta over Peter Berka and Ed Granger in the Men's Draw.

Fairfield, CT
The Patterson Club Mens B APTA Championship was played this past saturday Oct. 22nd, 2005.20 teams from the tri-state area battled it out in rainy conditions in Fairfield Connecticut.Brian Klein and Mike D'Addario from Long Island, N.Y., defeated David Gedney and Bo Bogardus from Darien Connecticut, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the finals. view draw.

Liberty Township, OH
The ultimate tournament for Platform Tennis has been finalized and the spotlight again is on Cincinnati! On October 8th-9th Four Bridges Country Club will host the 1st of a kind tournament called "The Premier Cup" featuring the top 8 men's Platform teams in the country (based on 2005 year end rankings). A $5000 total purse has been provided by David Dodge of Premier Platform Tennis.

Liberty Township, OH
Four Bridges Country Club, has added Platform Tennis to its sports facilities. The courts were built by Premier Platform Tennis and are scheduled to open this September in conjunction with The Viking Academy. Other clubs in the Cincinnati area have introduced new membership classes to help the growth of platform tennis in the area.

Milwaukee WI
