Only 3 locations in New York City still have platform tennis courts on their rooftops, but paddle is alive and well at the Loyola Paddle Tennis Association in Manhattan where the club hosted over 30 players for it's annual end of season mixed doubles tourney. Rumors about the event being played on the platform tennis courts behind the tennis center turned out to be false, however Juan did carry his paddle and was willing to settle any contest "out back" Congratulations Juan!

During the weekend of March 21st, the herculean efforts of Charlie’s Champions Foundation friends and supporters raised close to $70,000 to benefit the music therapy program and the research program at the Cancer Center. This wonderful two-day expression of community spirit featured a junior paddle play competition (“Underage in the Cage”) Friday evening, bustling with 125 young boys and girls, and an adult version of the “Rage” with 60 nationally ranked and novice mixed doubles teams competing Saturday in “A” and “B” draws respectively. While it is not yet an NCAA sport, Chris Kelley and Kate Macauley are working hard at Georgetown University and at Yale University, respectively, to make platform tennis a club sport.  Growing up playing in Wilton, CT, the two didn’t want to give it up when they went away to school. Now sophomores, the two are making some progress.

A new event was established to bring the 4 leagues in Region 1 together. Connecticut, Long Island NY, New Jersey, and Westchester NY each sent their best to duel it out "team style". On April 4th the four leagues were succesfully brought together. Following the team competition an quick fire tournament was held using Red Zone targets. Find out who won, and more about this event.

A record 90 teams participated in the annual Rochester District Platform Tennis Championships last Saturday March 28th in Rochester New York. The event was hosted by Shadow Lake Golf and Racquet Club and chaired by Sandra and Fritz Odenbach. There were 6 separate tournaments all completed in one day, with a Men’s A/B/C division and a Women’s A/B and a new Women’s C Level tournament which was filled at 16 teams. Teams from neighboring Buffalo and Syracuse were invited also Story, Winners, & Photos
